Weather: Big Island Hawaii boasts 11 of the 13 climate zones in the world, each with unique ecosystems and weather characteristics. Elevation, pressure variations, rainfall, wind and topography combine to create distinctive microclimates within those climate zones. Climates you may encounter include the humid tropical zones, from sea level to 450 feet, the arid and semi-arid zones, the temperate zones, and the Alpine zones, chilly areas above 10,500 feet. This is not the Hawaii of Waikiki postcards. Rain is what keeps us lush and green. Our normal year rainfall is 120-140 inches. While mostly at night, this changes during the year. Our local temps range from a low of 59 to a high of 80. We have our own Davis weather station on site and accessible via web or iphone app for current conditions.
